i believe in my ideas
A fantasy film about a contemporary exhibition space, curated by none other than Fyodor Dostoevsky himself. The exhibition features a variety of paintings, including Hans Holbein the Younger’s The Body of the Dead Christ in the Tomb. Dostoevsky contrasts the belief in Christ as the God-Man with the love for Christ as a human — it is the human who is the image of God.
The texts heard within the film space are quotes from the author’s characters, including from the novels The Idiot and The Adolescent, as well as from K. V. Mochulsky’s monograph Dostoevsky: His Life and Work.
“…prince Christ descended into the world, but for the world, this is the dead Christ…”
Film, in collaboration with Ilya Duganov for the Theatre of Nations. Moscow, Russia, 2021.
